Au Yin Chung, Melvin

Melvin Au is a designer and digital artist. Experience in visual, art & communications, Melvin works in multi disciplines. Not only focused on art direction for traditional mediums, but also works in various categories, including user experience, interaction design and media art.

Melvin is an art graduate in Hong Kong. He received his Associate Degree in Digital Visual Design in 2008 and graduated in 2010 for the Bachelor Degree in School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.

My King's Road, graduation thesis for his bachelor degree, is a work that impressed the locals. It was selected for SCM Annual 2010. It has been introduced in local magazine, invited for TV programme interview and introduced in a local photography seminar by the local photography community.

In 2010, Melvin started his career as a full-time designer, focused on visual communication and interaction design. He worked in a digital agency and IT solutions provider for creative works. He not only worked in design production and front-end programming, but also the concept development in online campaigns, ATL and BTL promotions, social media, brand building and corporate communication. He has worked with various digital projects including clients from bank, finance, fashion, cosmetics, education, FMCG and technologies. During the time in a leading local IT company, he incharge the user interface design for several online trading portals, awarded HR software and mobile apps.

In 2014, he worked as the designer of a top-visited web portal in Hong Kong. Not only the improvement for the user interface on various platforms, but also the exploration of the brand new experience for the local community.

In 2015, he joined a worldwide telecom, working as the Senior UX Designer for the overall experience design on cross-platform communication applications with various UX deliverables, including user research, competitive analysis, information architecture, interface & interaction design, design spec & requirements, visual guide and design system. He was also the Lead UX worked with project managers, local & offshore development teams and communicating with overseas clients directly.

In 2017, he joined the largest ICT group in Hong Kong, working as the Lead Designer for the new vertical - eCommerce & new retail business in Hong Kong. He was not only focusing on the user experience design of applications, but also manage and incharge the creative resources for digital marketing campaigns and promotions from direction to execution.

In 2019, he joined a luxury jewellery retail based in Hong Kong, acting as the UX Manager focusing on the experience design of digital selling tools and internal systems for the omnichannel strategy across the region.

In 2022, he completed his capstone research project for the postgraduate programme in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He got practical practices in user & design research, innovative strategies, service design and project management. He received the Master Degree (MDes) in Design Strategies with Distinction in the same year.

Although he is mainly focusing on digital product and digital experience design, he is interested in visual design and branding, especially the ideation and creation of corporate logo design. He is the winner of logo design for PolyU CESEF in 2021 and the second runner-up of RHS 65th anniversary logo in 2023.

Currently, he is working as a freelancer on design service, and also an artist on digital image and photography.
